Absolutely terrible.
I’m sorry to say it, but last night’s episode of Gossip Girl was the worst one I have ever seen.
From giving the episode a product placement title to the consistent subliminal plugging of Vitamin Water and Ashley Tisdale’s “Picture This” phone to the crappy, unoriginal story line, “Dark Night” was just terrible.
Alright, when Blair’s new fling’s deep dark secret was that he was “British and a Lord” (*gasp*) in the first episode I was amused. When the second episode had nothing to really talk about - I was patient and just grateful for the t.v. fix. But when they start showing 12-year-old’s dressing up as the “older kids” in a weak attempt to reach out to the show’s demographic thinly veiled by what the producers thought was “humour”, I just felt sick.
A blackout? Really? Now that’s an original way to catalyze character development. It’s way more original than locking your characters into enclosed spaces, like I don’t know, closets or some mode of elevating transportation so that their relationships can evolve…oh wait…
At least we know that in the next few episodes we can enjoy Dan and Serena’s mindless droning about their feelings or whatever it is they talk about to their friend’s and family (who really don’t care but nod and smile and spout just as much B.S. - yes I’m talking about you Rufus) and Jenny can become the successful 14-year-old she wants to be even though the past three episodes have been about her overcoming the oh-so mean and heartless people of the fashion industry that admire her spunk…how many more of these stories will they be able to churn out? I bet three.
It’s lucky that Nate is pretty. Like Vanessa I can look past his man-whoring and just stare at him instead of paying attention to his “cougar pleasuring” in between all his terrible family troubles - you know, appreciate him for what he really is…eye candy.
As for Blair, Chuck and “The Lord”. 10 bucks says Marcus is a homosexual and Chuck will reject Blair again when she goes back to him only to realize two episodes later that he really does love her but will have to steal her away from a Chinese Emperor who was pretending to be an ESL exchange student going to MIT next year.
The only good thing about this episode was the fact that we could hear Ed Westwick’s (Chuck’s) natural British accent.
I don’t know if I love it
oxox,
Taytay

I like that you took the chance to be critical here. Yes the episode did keep in line with the tawdry/scandalous nature but you’re right some of these story lines are getting redundant (I’m not sure I really care about Serena and Dan ever anymore…they’re so boring) but did you see the preview for next episode? I hope they start getting into some really gritty fights!!!
and yes, the 12 year olds were an appalling and transparent experience, I had actually forgotten that happened until you mentioned it.
Guess I just blacked it out
