The lives of Upper East Siders Serena, Blair, Nate and Chuck, and their families are introduced; Serena who went to boarding school apparently having an affair with Blair’s boyfriend Nate, which causes the couple to break up, returns when she found out her brother Eric had a suicide attempt. The former couple eventually reconcile. Also introduced are how Dan and Jenny Humphrey of Brooklyn interact with the Upper East Siders who also go to the same schools as them.
