OMG!
After wasting an hour in front of the TV watching Project Runway re-runs (that Christian is fierce!), the clock struck eight and it was time for the season premiere that I know you’ve all been waiting for. I excitedly flipped the channel to 166 (the CW - apparently it wasn’t showing on CTV). I can honestly tell you that I had the hugest grin on my face as I watched a brief recap of season one, anxiously waiting for the main event.
It didn’t disappoint. Everything that I love about the Gossip Girl series was there: beautiful clothes on beautiful young people, beautiful young people doing terrible things, and terrible drama between beautiful young people! This time, all of the drama went down in the Hamptons, where the rich and famous go for some R’n'R. All of our favourites made an appearance looking tan (well, except for Jenny, who spent most of her time interning in New York), stylish, and very hot.
The fashions were very much on point this time around. Blair was stunning in her fifties inspired dresses and bathing suit. My favourite dress would have to be a white, A-line dress with a colourful floral print that she was wearing with a wide pink belt around her waist. My favourite look on Serena would have to be the white, cleavage-exposing, Grecian dress that she wore to the White Party. Honestly, whoever styles for this show is fantastic. I can tell that the stylist really knows the characters and never compromises the character’s style for the sake of what’s trendy.
The boys on Gossip Girl were also looking sharp, but the standout had to be Chuck. True to his form, he was an array of plaids and pastels (honestly, a pastel green suit?). Not easy looks to rock, but he managed to pull them off. But boys, please don’t try this home.
On another note, I was not thrilled Jenny back in the picture. I was always bored seeing her week after week in the first season, except for when she exposed for the lying social climber she is. Sorry. Was. I don’t know what it is, but something about her character just gets to me. But that’s another story for another time. I was impressed at how she managed to parlez her way into the White Party by apologizing to Eric. I for one did not see that coming. But I’m sort of glad that she did. I hate to think that the writers would keep her a pathetic, immature socialite-wannabe forever. Let’s just hope that history doesn’t repeat itself. Actually, I hope it does! But if this kitty wants to fight her way back into the in crowd, she’d better sharpen her claws! Rawr!
So what’s all of this with Nate and Catherine? Will it last? I certainly hope so! If there’s one thing I enjoy watching it’s a good affair, fictional or otherwise! And by the way, does anyone else out there know any super hot forty-somethings? I know I don’t! Most of the forty-year olds I know are just…old! It’s these kinds of small details that remind me that yes, it’s all just a TV show.
So Dan and Serena are back together for the school year. How nice. I know I’m not alone in hoping that more drama starts between them. The best episodes were those in which they were facing difficulties, read: Georgina, Vanessa (in the beginning).
Speaking of Georgina, does anyone know whether or not she’ll be making an appearance in this season? Michelle Trachtenburg was awesome last season and I’d love to see her again. And you know what else I’d love to see? A Chuck and Blair reunion. I just won’t believe that some British lord (who I totally thought was going to confess that he was a 40 year old bartender from the Bronx) could bring about the end of Bassdorf, the greatest pair of villains since Palpatine met Vader.
Anyway, it’s late here in the Eastern Timezone and I have a fresh school year to start tomorrow! Wish me luck, and good luck to all of you beautiful people starting school too! I’m sure that you’ll all look wonderful in your new back-to-school cashmere and Rock&Republics!
xoxo,
Sia
